The ECB confirmed on Monday that Essex fast bowler Andre Nel has received 6 penalty points under the ECB’s discipline code.
The charge comes following incidents during Essex’s LV County Championship match against Derbyshire on 23-26 April 2008.
Nel was reported by Umpires Tim Robinson and Richard Illingworth for two separate Level 2 breaches of the code, each of which attracts a penalty of 3 points:
1. Using language or gesture that is obscene or of a serious insulting nature to another player, umpire, referee, team official or spectator.
2. Throwing the ball at or near a player, umpire or official in an inappropriate and dangerous manner.
The penalty points remain on Nel’s record for a period of two years. The accumulation of nine or more penalty points in any two-year period will result in an automatic suspension.
