Ravinder Bopara created history on Wednesday when he struck 201 – the highest individual score by an Essex batsman in one-day cricket.
Bopara beat the 198 made by Graham Gooch in the Benson and Hedges Cup at Hove in May 1982.
In the process, Bopara also compiled the highest score by an Essex batsman in the one-day knockout trophy (beating Graham Gooch’s 144 against Hampshire at Chelmsford in 1990 and Mark Pettini against Surrey at The Brit Oval in 2008).
In addition, the partnership between Bopara and James Foster (61) of 190 was the County’s highest for the fifth-wicket in the one-day knockout trophy, beating the 131 by Andy Flower and Bopara against Devon at Exmouth in 2005.
