MATCH PREVIEW . . .

Essex Eagles have named a 14-man squad for their opening Twenty20 Cup match against Surrey Brown Caps at the Brit Oval on Wednesday June 11.

The Eagles will have England ODI players Alastair Cook and Ravinder Bopara available before they join up with their international team-mates ahead of Friday’s Twenty20 match against New Zealand at Old Trafford.

All-rounder Neil Dexter goes straight into the squad following his loan move from Kent Spitfires.

Fast bowler Maurice Chambers also comes into the squad and will make his first Twenty20 Cup appearance for the Eagles if selected.

All-rounder Tim Phillips remains the only injury absentee as he continues his rehabilitation following knee surgery.

Phillips told the Essex CCC website: “My recovery is coming along nicely and I’m playing my first game of club cricket since the injury for Saffron Walden on Saturday. Hopefully I will be able to play some part in our Twenty20 campaign.”

Pre-match comments
Speaking ahead of the game, First-Team Coach Paul Grayson told the Essex CCC website:

“Twenty20 cricket is here to stay and is the biggest prize for our game now so there’s a massive incentive there for our players to perform to their maximum level. We will be out to win it just as we are every competition. We are looking forward to it and have come up with a game-plan over the last couple of days. Having played some good 50-over cricket this season there is no reason why we can’t translate that into the 20-over game. If we get the basics right we will have a successful campaign.”

Tickets
There are still tickets available for tomorrow’s game. They can be bought at the turnstiles, priced at £20 for Adults and £10 for Under-16s. Cash only.
