Essex Eagles have named a provisional 14-man squad for their Twenty20 Cup matches against Surrey Brown Caps at The Ford County Ground tonight, Friday June 20.
Captain Mark Pettini returns to the side after missing the last three matches with a groin injury.
Pace bowler Chris Wright is also added to the squad that beat Kent Spitfires at Chelmsford on Wednesday – Alex Roberts drops out.
Loan signing Neil Dexter is eligible again after being unavailable to play against his ‘mother’ county. As a result the 23-year-old will again miss out on Sunday with Tom Westley then being drafted in.
Tim Phillips made his comeback after knee surgery in the Second Eleven Trophy match against MCCA at Dunstable on Thursday, scoring 21 and getting through six overs.
Pre-match comments
Speaking ahead of the game against Surrey, First-Team Coach Paul Grayson told the Essex CCC website:
“Our last match saw a terrific win against Kent Spitfires – one in which we showed a lot of fighting spirit. Now we go into the second half of our campaign in the knowledge that our fate is still in our hands. Three wins out of our next five games should be enough to see us get into the quarter-finals. During that time we play Hampshire twice – who are level with us – and also go to Kent, who are a very talented one-day side and that just shows how well we played on Wednesday.”
