In respect of the decision last night by the Chelmsford Planning Committee being minded not to refuse the application to redevelop the County Ground, Keith Brown, Treasurer of Essex Cricket Club said; "We have taken another step along the route to realise our ambition of redeveloping our ground. It is now in the hands of the Government and we hope we will have a rapid, positive response to enable the project to proceed." The effect of the resolution is that the papers will now be referred to Go-East (the regional Government office) to determine whether it should be referred to the Secretary of State or be sent back to Chelmsford Borough Council to grant permission.
