Paul Grayson reflects on the CB40 victory against Northamptonshire.

Speaking to Essex Cricket website after watching the Eagles complete an emphatic 9-wickets victory on Sunday, First XI Coach Paul Grayson said:
“It was a very professional batting performance, Mark and Ravi gave us a terrific start and then Grant came in at three and played really well. So that was excellent but it was just a bit frustrating that it took us 20 overs to get going with the ball, I thought we were a bit lethargic and not quite on our game in that area.
“Northants were around 120-2 after 20 overs and at one stage, it looked as if we could have been chasing 250 or 260 and I said to the lads in the dressing room that if we’d been playing against a better side, then that’s the sort of figure thy would have posted and it would have been a tough chase.
“So our bowling needs to improve particularly in the powerplays so that’s one area in which we need to step up but overall, it was a very professional performance and it’s two more points.
“It keeps the winning run going and we are keeping the pressure on Yorkshire at the top. Run rate could come into the final outcome but all we can do is to keep winning our matches in this competition.
“We’ve got 6 matches to play including Yorkshire and at the moment, we are right in there with every chance of making the semi-finals.”
