Emerging Players & County Age Group Squads

County Squads

The winter programme for County Squads covers all areas of the game and is tailored for each age group. The County age group trials take place in April. This is co-ordinated at the Ford County Ground, in the Essex Autogroup Graham Gooch Cricket Centre. The players from the winter training squads and the nominated players from the each of the District Boards come together to show their talents in the trials for the County age group teams. If selected through the first phase there are additional outdoor trial matches, and then the squads are reduced down to play against the School (Brentwood School, Felsted School and Forest School) age group elevens. Then the full County matches take place from May onwards.

Player Pathway

The ECCB Emerging Players Programme

The Emerging players programme is aimed at the under 13’s to 16’s age groups and offers our younger talented players the opportunity to enhance their game through this specialist coaching programme. The programme underpins the County’s main Academy, and sets out to provide players with the appropriate skills to progress to the Academy. The training takes place at New Hall School, Chelmsford.

The winter programme starts in November 2009 and runs through to April, which is followed by a summer programme that is held at Billericay CC. The specialist training incorporates all aspects of the game, which will include technical and tactical development, strength and conditioning programmes, and sports psychology and life-style workshops. The County Performance Manager co-ordinates the programme, and works closely with the County Academy Director and the Seam Bowling Coach in regards to talent identification for the next level.
