The South African born all-rounder left Derbyshire at the end of the 2011 season to join Essex having first played for his former county in 2004. He had been a member of South Africa’s squad at the Under-19 World Cup and became an established member of the Derbyshire first team squad in all versions of the game as a potent middle to lower order batsman who could also bowl more than useful seam and off-spin. In August 2010, he took over the captaincy for the final two months of the season when Chris Rogers stepped down. A regular member of our one-day teams in 2012, Greg launched his first-class Essex career with a century against Cambridge UCCE.
