After being a part of the Academy for six seasons, Michael signed an Academy-Professional contract for the 2009 campaign. The highly promising all-rounder made his maiden first team appearance against Bangladesh in 2010 and he played a couple of one-day matches later that season including a Pro40 game when he struck an unbeaten 52 to help beat Northamptonshire . 

He was given his Championship debut in the final match of the season against Durham.

Selected for the first four CB40 matches in 2011, the tall all-rounder then suffered the latest in a crop of injuries which have restricted his progress and he will be hoping for an injury-free campaign this summer in order to further his clams for a first team place.
