Born in Dewsbury, he only started playing the game seriously at the age of 16 but made significant progress being selected for Suffolk Under-17’s where he came to the notice of the Essex scouting system. He was offered a place on the Academy squad and continued to make eye-catching advance and was selected for the England Development programme at Under18/19 level. Tymal toured Sri Lanka with England U-19’s and, on his return; he linked up with the County first team squad on their pre-season tour to Barbados.
He captured his maiden first class wicket on his first-class debut for Essex in their tour match with Sri Lanka before making three Championship appearances late in the season together with a CB40 outing. Clocked at speeds in excess of 90 mph, he played 8 Championship matches in 2012 and claimed 14 wickets and will be challenging for a regular place in the pace attack this year.
