Aaron Beard signed an initial two-year professional contract in 2015, after good performances for the Essex Academy.

Debuting in May 2016, Aaron first attracted attention in a Sri Lankan Tour of England game where he took wickets in each of his first two overs and saw him take four in the innings, including Wisden Cricketers of the years for 2017 and 2019: Kusal Mendis and Dimuth Karunaratne.

In 2019, Beard took career-best match figures of 7/45 as Essex dominated eventual title-rivals Somerset at The Cloud County Ground, on the way to winning Division 1 in Essex’s double-winning season.

He would be deployed in white-ball cricket more often than not in 2022. Beard would take career-best T20 figures of 4/29 against Surrey, removing England-regular Jason Roy in the first over.
