Adam Wheater returned to the club in September initially on loan before seeing his loan made permanent. Having coming through the Academy ranks at Chelmsford, Wheater broke into the first-team side in 2011 before going to Hampshire in 2013.

He returned to Chelmsford in 2016 and saw him take the reins of first team keeper from James Foster. Since, influential over all three formats, being behind the stumps during all of Essex’s recent success, taking 163 catches and 30 stumpings.
