St Johns Billericay Cricket Club were one of a number of clubs who have benefitted from the latest round of EWCT Small Grants. These grants are available for clubs to improve their cricket facilities, to encourage them to complete matches at the weekend.
The Central Essex Club used funding to purchase new flat-sheet covers and a bowdry roller, which had they have been without, the chances of playing this weekend’s match would have been minimal.
Jon Fairclough, Chairman of St Johns Billericay Cricket Club said; “We put down the cover sheets Thursday afternoon, given weather warnings of heavy rain for the next day. We had some rain, which we mopped up with the bowdry roller and pulled the covers off on the Saturday morning.
“We got the game on and our first team enjoyed a 64 run victory.”
It is hoped that the next round of EWCT funding will be available for clubs to apply for from November.
