Lawrence joins Porter on Specsavers one to watch shortlist

Essex all-rounder Dan Lawrence has joined Jamie Porter on the Specsavers One to Watch shortlist for the 2016 summer.

Lawrence’s recent form, including his stunning innings of 154 against Leicestershire, has seen him gain recognition from the selection panel and join his Essex teammate on the list.

The former England U19 international is joined by Surrey’s Sam Curran, Lancashire’s Haseeb Hameed and Liam Livingstone, Northamptonshire’s Ben Duckett, Middlesex’s Nick Gubbins and Derbyshire’s Shiv Thakor.

Contenders had to be 23 or under at the start of the Specsavers County Championship season in April, and not to have represented either England or England Lions at that point.

Chris Silverwood was thrilled that both Lawrence and Porter’s consistency had been recognised.

He said: “We are always keen to give a platform to our own young players. The form of Porter and Lawrence has been excellent with both of them continuing to go from strength to strength.

“Hopefully they can keep performing as they have been as we reach the climax of the Specsavers County Championship.”

Now it will be down to the followers of the Specsavers County Championship to decide. The polls have been opened for votes to be cast on one of the eight players in the frame (http://www.ecb.co.uk/content/vote-specsavers-one-watch-award). They will close late on Thursday September 15, the last day of the penultimate round of fixtures – with the Specsavers One to Watch for 2016 to be crowned on Monday September 19, the day before the last round of fixtures begin.
