Watch | Lawrence digs deep to earn Essex a draw

 

Essex headed into Day Four against Lancashire facing an uphill challenge at The Cloudfm County Ground. After a disappointing first innings with the bat, Tom Westley and Dan Lawrence resumed the final day’s play on 89-2 with many people thinking that a win was already on the cards for the visitors.

However, it was Lawrence who showed unbelievable calmness, patience and resolve to dig deep and bat throughout the whole day, and producing a performance which showed comparisons to his teammate, Alastair Cook.

Essex Cricket TV spoke with the 19 year old after play to talk about his ‘best innings’ to date.

It was an innings which included of spending over 7 hours in the middle, spanning 333 balls and some important contributions from Tom Westley, Ryan ten Doeschate and ending with a resilient knock from Simon Harmer.

His innings included 18 boundaries, but it was all about the blocks…
