Tom Westley and Dan Lawrence are set to feature for the England Lions this week in a three-day match against a Queensland XII in Brisbane, which begins on Monday.
The pair flew out to Australia a couple of weeks ago and have been in training with the Ashes squad. This week’s match will be the first competitive action the team have faced, under the stewardship of Lions Head Coach, Andy Flower.
Flower said: “We’re playing a 12-a-side match as they do in the Futures League which is Australia’s main Second XI competition. We’d normally be keener on playing 11-a-side and a first-class fixture, but in this instance it will afford us the opportunity to play an extra quick bowler – and also to face an extra quick bowler from Queensland, which we expect to mean Ben Cutting being included in their team as he returns after injury.”
Flower will come up against a former Essex team-mate, as the Queensland team will be coached by former favourite, Andy Bichel.
