County Champions spread festive cheer at Broomfield Hospital

Members of the Essex first-team and Women’s squad visited the Phoenix Children’s Ward at Broomfield Hospital yesterday to spread the festive cheer ahead of the Christmas period.

County Champion stars such as Jamie Porter, Nick Browne and Sam Cook were all in attendance, while Kelly Castle visited on behalf of the Women’s team.

The visitors played the role of Santa for the afternoon, giving out Essex Cricket goody bags and posing for photo opportunities with the Division One trophy.

Essex and Loughborough MCCU opening bowler Cook was more than happy to make the trip and said: “We are in a very privileged position to be able to do what we do, and having the opportunity to give back to the community is something we are more than happy to do.

“Being in hospital is never nice, especially around the Christmas period, and being able to put a smile on the kids faces was very rewarding.

“To be honest, I think the parents were just as happy to see us and it was a great visit all round and one we hope we can make for many years to come.”
