Lawrence fractures hand on England Lions Duty

Dan Lawrence’s time with the England Lions has been cut short as the batsman suffered a fractured right hand during net practice on Saturday. After sitting out the first two Tests of the three-match series against West Indies A in Jamaica, Lawrence had been set to play in the third match in Antigua which starts on Monday.

Lawrence will now fly home and replaced by Hampshire’s new signing, Sam Northeast, who was already set to join up with the squad for the one-day series. The extent of the injury is still to be confirmed but will hoping to be fit for Essex’s pre-season Tour in mid-March.

Jamie Porter has been rested the final Test ahead of the one-day series with Northeast set to be one of three debutants for the Lions on Monday. Somerset spinner Dom Bess and Northamptonshire fast bowler Richard Gleeson are also in line to play.

Bess will replace Crane, and team up with his fellow Somerset spinner Jack Leach, while Gleeson and Lancashire seamer Saqib Mahmood will replace Jamie Porter and Toby Roland-Jones in two more changes from the team beaten in the first two Tests.
