2nd XI Pipped to T20 Title

Lancashire were crowned 2nd XI T20 champions after narrowly overcoming Essex after a rain-affected Finals Day in Arundel.

Lancashire beat Gloucestershire and Essex beat Durham in the semi-finals, both of which were restricted to 5 overs per side.

Sam Cook starred for Essex in the semi-final win, taking 3 wickets for 21 runs and Paul Walter dominated with the bat, scoring 37 from just 12 balls as Essex secured a 10-wicket victory.

Essex won the toss for the final and elected to field first. It seemed a good decision as Lancashire were restricted to 66-9, with Walter claiming 4 wickets for 12 runs.

However, the Red Rose bowlers defended their target well with left-arm spinner Tom Hartley taking 3 wickets for 12 runs, which included the dismissals of dangermen Walter, Ashar Zaidi and Rishi Patel.

Essex were limited to 41-7 after their 9 overs which resulted in Lancashire winning by 25 runs and taking the title.

Essex will be back in action in the 2nd XI Championship Final in several weeks time. They’ll again face off with Durham at Emirates Riverside and will be looking to end the season on a celebratory note.
