In Memory of Haydn Davies (1935-2020)

Essex Cricket are saddened to hear the news that Haydn Davies passed away this week aged 84 years old following a long illness.

Haydn played an instrumental part in developing cricket in Essex and across the region for over 65 years, which most recently saw him being awarded the ‘Club to County Award’ at the 2019 Essex Cricket End of Season Awards for his achievements in cricket.

The many years of dedication to Essex and English Youth Cricket saw Haydn take up roles as Age Group Manager and Selector for Essex & Regional cricket, as well as Fixture Secretary.

His experience and expertise helped to grow Essex Youth Cricket into a shining example of innovation and well-administered cricket, including the partnership between schools, clubs and Essex Cricket.

Dan Feist, Cricket Operations Director at Essex Cricket, said: “Haydn has been a long-time servant of youth cricket. The work he did and influence he has had on so many developing young cricketers will be sorely missed, and the County Club is very proud and appreciative of all his hard work.

“As a result of Haydn’s work, there are a number of county players past and present who are indebted to the time and support he put into the game he loved.”

Haydn’s name will always be synonymous with Essex and youth cricket in the county, and up until his illness was diagnosed in 2018, he still regularly attended grounds and schools to help organise matches throughout the summer.

The thoughts of everyone at Essex Cricket are with Haydn’s friends and family during this time.
