Community Outreach Fundraising Launched

Following the launch of the Club’s Community Outreach campaign in Essex and East London, we will continue to support the fight against Coronavirus.

The campaign continues to reach those most at risk to the pandemic and also the key workers on the frontline of the outbreak.

Background:

The Outreach campaign started with current and past members of the playing squad, plus Anthony McGrath and first team scorer Tony Choat, contacting our Members aged 70 years old and over. The call campaign has so far reached over 1,000 people and will continue to run throughout the isolation period.

This campaign developed into the Club reaching out to the wider community, with opportunities to support frontline workers.

On Monday 6 April, a group of the First Team squad, including captains Tom Westley and Simon Harmer, volunteered to help with the ‘Supporting Humanity’ charity who are based near our former home in Leyton. The aim of the charity is to provide hot meals to vulnerable people in the community, as well as the ICT/ICU NHS workers at 13 hospitals in parts of London and Essex.

Simon Harmer joined Idris Patel from Supporting Humanity on BBC Essex to discuss the work being carried out in the community:

In addition to Supporting Humanity, the Club are also supporting the Essex Community Foundation. The Foundation’s ‘Essex Coronavirus Response and Recovery Programme’ aims to get help quickly to voluntary and community organisations that are helping older and vulnerable people, and those that are in crisis and need emergency funding to keep their vital services running.

The Club have launched a Just Giving page to support both charities in the fight against Coronavirus.

How Can You Help?

Visit our Just Giving page to help us raise vital funds during this critical time. The donations received will be split between the two charities and used to make a difference as soon as possible.
