Lawrence Shines for England Despite Series Defeat

Dan Lawrence’s performance with the bat was one of the few positives England could take from the fourth Test against India.

Chris Silverwood’s team fell to a 3-1 series defeat after an innings and 25 run loss in Ahmedabad, but Dan Lawrence marked his return to the starting XI with a half-century.

Following his knock of 46 in the first innings, Lawrence again found himself trying to hold the innings together in his new number 7 spot. The Chingford man reached his second Test fifty off 93 deliveries, most of which came alongside fellow Essex Academy graduate, Ben Foakes in a 44-run partnership.

It was a difficult start for Dan in India with scores of 0, 18, 9, and 26 in tricky batting conditions. However, he ended his winter away with England as he started it by reaching the fifty milestone, which will stand him in good stead ahead of India’s reverse tour of England later this year.

The future is bright for Dan’s Test career after finishing the two Tours with 248 runs at an average of 27.55 across the five matches he played against Sri Lanka and India.

England now turn their attention to white-ball cricket with Dan returning home to later join up with his Essex teammates for the 2021 campaign which starts on April 8 against Worcestershire at The Cloudfm County Ground.
