Essex Cricket in the Community support Daggers Diversity Day

Essex Cricket in the Community will be supporting Dagenham & Redbridge Football Club on Saturday 29 January when the East Londoners once again stage their popular Daggers Diversity Day at the Chigwell Construction Stadium, sponsored by the BD Group.

Previously, the Vanarama National League club had held a highly successful and award-winning Daggers Against Racism Day for more than a decade, with the club then introducing Diversity Day during the 2019/20 season.

Saturday’s event will run alongside the Daggers National League clash with FC Halifax Town and offers the community match ticket from as little as 50p for concessions and £2.50 for adults.

Essex Cricket has supported the day for several years and its partnership work that is very important in ensuring physical activity and sports games are available for all.

On matchday, Essex Cricket’s Barking lead Community Coach, Kanan Thiyarajah will be encouraging Daggers fans to get involved with some simple activities as well as providing information on how to get involved in cricket, whether it through National Programmes such as All Stars Cricket and Dynamos Cricket, or the clubs’ Ability sessions such as Wheelchair Cricket or Super 1’s as well as signpost anyone to local cricket clubs.

A statement from the Club explained: “While we recognise that racism still exists in football and society in general, we also recognise that the community that we live and work in, Barking & Dagenham, has become a much more diverse and tolerant society. With this in mind, we have decided to celebrate our differences and unite around the game we all love.

“Our Vanarama National League game on January 29, has therefore been designated as our second ever Daggers Celebrate Diversity Day when we hope to showcase the many good things that are happening in our Borough.

“With the generous support of the BD Group, who return to sponsor their second ‘Daggers Celebrate Diversity Day’, we will again be able to offer ridiculously cheap admission prices and there will also be several activities to do around the stadium before the game.

“We, therefore, invite all sections of the community to come and experience live football and show that the Daggers welcome everyone.”
