Match Report

Essex 2nd XI continued there fine 50-over form recording an 83-run victory over a strong East London League XI in a competitive friendly match staged at Loughton Cricket Club.

Wicketkeeper Will Buttleman provided the fireworks, retiring not out on 101 from 103 balls. Buttleman’s knock included thirteen 4s and one 6. Kai Greig took similar action after reaching his half-century. Meanwhile, Jack Plom was unbeaten on 43 as Essex posted a sizable 293/8. Haris Latif was the pick of the East London bowlers with three for 46, while Salman Ahmad claimed a brace.

Hamza Ahmed followed Buttleman’s lead, scoring 101 off as many balls as the batting masterclass continued. But while skipper, Rameez Rahman chipped in with 41, those around them fell relatively cheaply. Greig took 3/28 from his seven overs, while Plom, Ben Allison and Jamal Richards took two apiece to see Essex home with some to spare.
