Adam Wheater returned to the club in September initially on loan before seeing his loan made permanent. Having coming through the Academy ranks at Chelmsford Wheater broke into the first-team side in 2011 before seeing his chances as a wicket-keeper diminished by James Foster’s impressive form.

The 26-year-old bought himself out of his contract and moved to Hampshire for the 2013 season. He made three first-class centuries in his first season before continuing his good form throughout his time at The Ageas Bowl. Again his chances to keep were diminished and he seeked pastures new which saw his return to Chelmsford.

Wheater represented the Club across all three formats in 2017, and scored late season runs to help the Club achieve a County Championship title.
