Daniel Sams joined the Essex in the March of 2022 to play for the Eagles in the Vitality T20 Blast. Having played for the Sydney Thunder since 2018, Sams T20 ability has grown from strength to strength, seeing him become the Sydney Thunder all-time top wicket-taker and reach the BBl final in three of his first four campaigns. The left-armer was also first included in the IPL for Mumbai Indians as well as being called up for the Australian National Team in 2022.

Making his debut against Kent Spitfires in the opening fixture of the campaign and playing every game in 2022, the big-hitting Australian first showed his class when he hit the clubs fastest T20 fifty in just his sixth game. The record of 17 balls against Sussex Sharks, where he went on to get 71 (24) would top Dan Lawrence’s 18 ball half-century against Surrey in 2019.

Daniel Sams would re-join Essex for a second season in 2023, a decision that the Essex fans would come to be greatly thankful for as he played a major role in Essex reaching their second T20 final. Alongside taking a wicket in every game, Sams would demolish another red-hot half century at the home of cricket against Middlesex (this time off 20 balls) as well as nearly getting Essex over the line in the final.
